In september 2000 the travel agency "Guaponi" and a Quichua family signed a contract with the federation of the Huaoranis (ONHAE) to build the Lodge in their territory. It is a community project, to build up a good working community with medical assistance and education. As our guests in the Lodge, you will be giving direct help to the Huaorani community of Gareno, since half of the entrance fee directly to the federation, benefiting all Huaoranis.
Example of a 4 days tour (with private transport from Quito):
Day 1 - We drive from Quito to Papallacta, where we have a hot bath in natural hotwater springs. We drive further down to Tena. After lunch in Tena we have a 77 km drive along the Napo river to the lodge. After 2,5 h we arrive before dark, in time for a welcome cocktail.
Day 2 - After breakfast, a walk of 4-6 hours in the jungle accompanied by a native guide. We discover flora and fauna and the Huaorani culture and their various medicinal plants. Return to the lodge and lunch. In the afternoon we go fishing or swimming in the river. After dinner there is a night walk in search of night-active mammals and insects.
Day 3 - Very early in the morning we observe birds and mammals. After breakfast we discover the way of life of the Huaorani Indian community, where you can admire (and buy) their beautiful handicraft-art. Return to the lodge. Lunch. In the afternoon we organize a blowpipe competition and a walk along the river enjoying the mysteries of the rainforest. Dinner and nightwalk in the forest to observe insects and caimans. A chat and a drink around the campfire.
Day 4 - Bird watching early in the morning and after breakfast return to Tena and back to Quito or other destinations.
